I started this blog and an associated web site in February 2009. The concept was to create a shared place where those who considered and/or integrated the idea of solid-state lighting current regulation to extend the life of LED products and enhance energy saving, while producing a stable light output. As an impartial non-manufacturer involved in this industry, I thought it was a nice idea. I make zero profit from this, and bear the expenses on my own.

Since 2009, there have been (2) manufacturers who have integrated options that carry the concept of Lumen Priority into their offering. Solid State Luminaires has added an LP option to its product line and references this site for its content and conceptual description. Another manufacturer (conglomerate) has adopted the concept and promoted it openly, but has not recognized or participated on this blog or on the Lumen Priority web site at all. Regardless, the idea of saving energy while enhancing product performance to end use customers is as solid as ever. I really am not concerned about being credited with its execution, so to the conglomerate who has decided to attempt to market this as a proprietary technology might be interested in reviewing the patents taken out on execution of it in their physical product. For Solid State Luminaires and anyone else interested in using this site as a resource, please let me know and I’ll add you to the web site references and make notice of your effort here.

We have just added two new design members and one manufacturer member to the organization!

Ken Reynar, a lighting design consultant from Park City Utah. He has over 25 years experience in architectural lighting design, and has volunteered to serve as a design adviser to see this concept realized in the general illumination market.

Jon Connell, a product designer and engineer who has experience experimenting with LEDs since 1976, has also been involved with committees involved in standards within the lighting market. Jon has volunteered to serve as a design adviser.

Jesco Lighting, with the formation of JLED focused on LED products, has joined as an interest product manufacturer.

You can find contact information and links to more information on these members at: http://www.lumenpriority.org/Contact%20Info/contact.htm

We hope to see interest and membership grow rapidly, and to begin the process of assembling a plan to resolve the application protocol metrics and recommendations as soon as possible, to provide a foundation upon which to build.

This blog is for sharing discussions and concepts raised on the LUMENPRIORITY.ORG site. What are your thoughts, critiques, or issues? Is this an interesting concept? Would you like to participate here in developing the details required to make something like this work?

For over 100 years, lighting design around conventional lamp technologies has demanded a sacrifice of energy and an acceptance of higher than desirable initial illuminance levels to accommodate a constant degradation of lighting performance over the life of the system. For the first time, capitalizing on the attributes of LEDs and solid state integration, this compromise can be eliminated. We can now deploy lighting systems that produce a steady state lumen output over the service life of the product and reduce initial energy consumption and total average energy use over the life of the system. This not only increases the quality of a lighting system overall, it allows designers to more finitely define light levels, eliminating safeties and assumptions of losses that create unecessary energy use.

Take some time to visit and review the content of the LUMENPRIORITY.ORG web site. Then make your views, concerns, and ideas known here!

For anyone interested in being a contributor to the content of this blog or the web site, please let me know.

Stay tuned, this should develop some interesting discussion.
